Heather sends us this question following our recent SEO for Coaches class.
I designed my site on Homestead and am still working on it. Needless to say I do want to get a WordPress.org based site because of what I’ve learned the last year. But after putting endless hours into the existing site, I haven’t been able to stomach yet the ambitious task of starting over.
I have an estimate from an agency to rebrand and redo my entire site & keywords on a wordpress.org site, but I’m comparing that cost to just doing it myself since I have a design background and I’m certain I could figure it out.
In the meantime, I wanted to ask if you are familiar with the Thesis WordPress theme? Is it the optimal one to choose for SEO?
Also, are you available for keyword consultation for my existing site in the interim & to implement them? Or in your opinion, is that just a waste of time and $ at this point?
Answer:
Heather, I haven’t worked with Thesis, but I’ve worked with similar type themes. It does appear to be an easy DIY solution and many of these themes do have plugins to help with SEO. And I’ve no doubt that you could figure it out and build one yourself. Obviously doing a site yourself seems like a smaller investment than hiring a professional web design company to do it for you.
But is it really?
From experience, I can tell you that these type themes are not as easy to work with as the demo videos make them look. There are so many different combinations and selections that you can spend dozens of hours trying to “get it right,” especially if you’re creative and want to make it look a certain way.
And then there is the challenge of trying to figure out the best layout to use to market your coaching services. Do you know what pages you need, what content to put on those pages, or how to set up your website marketing process to implement your business marketing pyramid?
In the time it takes to figure out how to create your site and get it up and running, how many leads could a professionally created site have generated for you? How many new clients did you miss out on?
That is why during the SEO class I recommended hiring someone to set up your WP site and optimize it. Then you can take over the maintenance if you wanted to DIY.
You see I believe that a website is never an expense. It’s an investment in your online marketing that should quickly pay for itself. My clients often see a return on investment (ROI) with only 2-5 new clients. After that, all new clients from their Mother Lode WebsiteTM are pure profit. And it works for them 24/7 generating new leads and establishing their credibility. Think about the lifetime value of each new client, and you’ll see that a Mother Lode WebsiteTM can give you a quick ROI.
I would not recommend implementing new SEO on your existing website, especially since you want to change. However, I would recommend that you get very clear on your ideal client, niche, irresistible offer, and marketing pyramid before you create your new site. That way your brand and uniqueness will clearly come through in your marketing.
I no longer offer keyword research as a stand alone service. It is part of my Mother Lode WebsiteTM and traffic generation packages. I believe in offering a complete solution so that my clients get maximum results, as evidenced by the high rankings in Google that my clients are getting with their websites.
I encourage you to take a look at my Coaching Website Package. Not only do I offer payment plans, but I also accept several credit cards for your convenience.
Remember, that your website should be an investment in your marketing that provides a quick ROI – AND creates a powerful online presence for your business.
If I can be of further assistance in the future, please let me know.
